17 345 DCM GV (32029 Pte H Leishman 14/High.L.I.), QSA with bars Natal / Transvaal named (13841 Pte H Leishman RAMC) served No 7 General Hospital Glasgow Vol Inf Bde Bearer Coy. BWM & Victory Medal (32029 Pte H Leishman High.L.I.). DCM L/G 28/3/1918 for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher-bearer. He brought in great numbers of wounded, and when not carrying wounded he volunteered for other duties. While brining in a wounded man he was attacked by the enemy. Though unarmed, he knocked one of them down and the others retired. Hugh Leishman was born at Bridgeton, Glasgow. With much research including War Diaries. An exceptional example of the electrically heated suit worn by Bomber crews, with all fittings present. One of the original Air Ministry zip fasteners is missing its tab but the cotton pull is still present. The separate quilter inner liner is also in extremely good condition. Both is a good size. £300 - £350 369 Emden interest - two pieces from the ships engine room, put together to make a fruit bowl. Stamped 'From S.M.S. Emden, Keeling Cacos Islands. Captured by H.M.A.S Sydney 9 November 1914'. A very unusual and unique piece. (21.5cm wide, 22cm tall). Most of the items involve requests to be released to referee. An interesting insight into Military Operations of the period, some are marked 'restricted' including letters from Captain Orton HQ British Troops, Austria. Many of these documents are unique with Wartime Historical significance.
