MM Sch No 111270, one of two awards to BN in L/G of 19/11/1917, Citation for Conspicuous valour and devotion to duty, his company having been ordered to reinforce another battalion (possibly 29th) which had delivered an attack and had been driven back by the enemy, he observed wounded men signalling for assistance, he applied to an office for permission to go to their assistance and receiving it went in to no mans land under very heavy fire and brought in men at great personal risk. Throughout the whole action he showed great courage and resource in handling his men and assisted to beat off enemy attacks. His conduct was quite outstanding. Award was recommended on Army Form W-3121 completed in the field on 26/8/17. This action was during the Capture of Hill 70 and Lens 15th to 25th August 1917. More particularly for the attack on Lens on 21st August 1917 at Nuns Alley and Cinnabar Trench (VC action for CSM Hanna) when they went to the aid of the 29th BN.
