On the night of the 6th June his convoy came under heavy shell fire and several animals were hit. Several drivers dismounted and took cover. L/Cpl Salter however rallied them and galloped his convoy safely through. Prior to this, similar conduct on his part had been brought to notice by an Artillery Officer".
