(2) Buyer collects Sold as Seen £20 - £25 935 Rifle: A fine and interesting Mark II Snider Military Rifle converted from a P'53 Enfield of the 7th Regiment of Foot 1st & 2nd Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Lock with Crown over 'V:R' to tail with '1864' over 'Enfield'. Breech marked 'BSA & Co' and '11*' Proof marks to barrel and chamber. Action crisp on 1st & 2nd cock. Fine walnut stock, minor dings, bruising and scratch commensurate with service use. Front of the stock with store keepers stamp. 'RM. Enfield' and '1' (1st Class Arm). In addition there is a stamp of 'D.C.' in a lozenge shape. This denotes the rifle was sold to the Dominion of Canada for use against the Fernian Raids of 1866 and for the Red River Expedition of 1870 against Louis Reil by the Canadian Militaria. Barrel 36.5" with dark patination. Bore .577 inch with original steel ramrod. Brass furniture. Buttplate marked '7' over '421' (7th Regt of Foot Rifle, Rack, No 421 The Royal Fusiliers). Bore rifling in excellent condition. £650 - £700 936 Rifle: An interesting P53 Enfield percussion rifle of the pattern exported to America for the American Civil War by Caleb Huse and others. These rifles had to be devoid of British Military ownership marks. This example has the VR Crown (but no V.R.) and 1863 Tower to lock. The barrel 39" is stamped with Birmingham view marks and '25'. The '25' mark is the Enfield Bore mark denoting .577 inch calibre on export rifles. The lock is crisp on 1st & 2nd cock and a small brass protective plate has been fitted to stop the cock being burnt by residue from the percussion caps probably in the field. Around 400,000 of these rifles marked with the '25' (.577) and '24' (.58 US.) were bought by the C.S.A. and many more by the Union Arms. In good condition with original ramrod.
