Wakeford Shilling 1811, VF £30 - £35 2594 Token, 19th/early 20thC : Brass 1/- token of the Smith & Walton Ltd 'Hadrian' Paint Works in Haltwhistle, Northumbria, named so due to it's proximity to Hadrian's Wall. The Hadrian Paint Works operated for many years, perhaps from the mid 19th to the mid 20th Century. It is most significant for creating the Hadrian Reflex Paint System, for disguising night operation of factories during the Second World War. Lightbulbs would be painted orange, and windows painted blue. At night the orange light of the bulbs would be filtered out by the blue glass, appearing black from the outside. GVF-nEF £40 - £60
