117 2305 Charles I, ''Maltravers'' copper farthing Type 3, different mm. each side, Woolpack/Portcullis, with inner circles, Spink 3199A, GVF £60 - £70 2306 Claudius and Messalina, billon tetradrachm of Alexandria, Egypt, obverse:- Laureate bust right, regnal year 4, before, reverse:- Messalina standingfront, looking left at two infants she holds in extended right hand, over left arm are corn-ears, Sear 1869var., with an old ticket, VF £60 - £80 2307 Claudius copper as of c.25mm of Patras, Achaea, reverse:- Legeionary eagle between two standards, RPC 1256 1 - 23, with old ticket, VF £45 - £50 2308 Claudius, copper as, Rome Mint 42 A.D., reverse legend LIBERTAS AVGVSTA S C, Libertas standing facing, head right, holding pilus, left hand extended, Sear 1860, slightly rough surfaces, VF £70 - £80 2309 Cnut silver penny, Quatrefoil type, Spink 1157, obverse reads:- +CNVT REX ANGILORV ['NG' ligulate, 'O's with pellet centres], reverse reads:- +GODLIOF ON HVNT, ['O's with pellet centres] Huntingdon Mint, moneyer Godleof, a London style coin, quatrefoils are almost circular, from the condition and colour, almost certainly from the 'Cambridge Hoard', full, round,well centred, in mint state, as struck £380 - £420 2310 Cnut silver penny, Quatrefoil type, Spink 1157, obverse reads:- +CNVT REX ANGLORVM [the 'VM' ligulate], the reverse reads:- +ODA M.OO GIPS [ the second 'O' is of horseshoe form], Ipswich Mint, moneyer Ode, Sadler in his Vol. II The Ipswich Mint could trace 3 of this moneyer ie his dies 1/1, the present coin is from a 'new' reverse die, ie 1/2, strangely two further specimens have been published in the latest sylloges which are the same die combination as our present coin both in Europeon Museums, hence we presently have 6 specimens recorded, 3 from die combination 1/2, 5 of the 6 coins are in museums making the present piece the only one available to collectors, full, round, well centred, toned GVF £600 - £650 2311 Commodus colonial bronze of Nicomedia, Smyrna, of c.30mm., reverse:- Commodus in military attire standing in biga, holding long staff, with a ticket by Dr.R.Vezin, both dies slightly off centre, even overall grey-green patina, GVF £60 - £80 2312 Commodus Roman colonial bronze of c.22mm., of Marcianopolis, Moesia Inferior, reverse:- Tyche standing facing, holding rudder and cornucopiae, GVF, together with a piece of Severus Alexander, c.20mm., of Nicaea, Bithynia, reverse:- Prize Urn containing single palm branch, both coins with two ticket, two of which are by Dr.R.Vezin, VF [2] £40 - £60 2313 Commonwealth Halfcrown 1653 mm Sun, grey toned VF, a "crackle" effect in the surface from porosity, ex Lockdales Auction 65 (March 2008) Lot 533 £280 - £350 2314 Cut silver halfpennies, William I of Scotland, Long Cross of Aethelred II, Short Cross of Henry II, Class 1b? and lastly a broken Edward I penny the size of a cut halfpenny, F to GF [4] £40 - £60 2315 Edward III silver groat, Fourth Coinage 1351-1377, Class C 1351-1352, of London, Lombardic 'M', closed 'C' and 'E', wedge tailed 'R', Spink 1565, striking crack into legend, flan a little uneven, GF/VF £30 - £40 2316 Edward III silver groat, Fourth Coinage 1351-1377, Pre- Treaty period, 1351-1361, London Mint, Series D 1352- 1353, 'R' with normal tail, Lombardic 'M', unbarred Roman 'N', full but crinkled flan, F/NVF with a half- groat of Henry VII, class IIIc, Canterbury Mint, mm. Tun, no legend stops, Spink 2211, holed in field, both found East Anglia, VF [2] £40 - £50 2317 Edward III silver halfgroat of London, Fourth Coinage 1351-1377, Pre-Treaty perion 1351-1361, Lombardic 'M', closed E and C, tail of 'R' only just visible but looks normal, series D, Spink 1566, looks to be lightly clipped, light scuffs under magnification, NVF £40 - £50 2318 Edward III silver halfgroat, Transitional treaty period, 1361, LondonMint, seven arches to tressure, Spink 1611, NVF/VF, with a ditto again London Mint, possibly Type D, 'R' with normal tail, lightly crinkled, a little short of flan, F [2] £40 - £50 2319 Edward III silver halfpenny of London, both dies slightly off centre, legend ends REX An, Spink 1558, black stain across obverse, nice portrait GVF with a similar coin but obverse legend seems to end REX as Spink 1557, centres worn, F and lastly an Edward I silver farthing of Lincoln, Spink 1427, GF/GVF [3] £50 - £60 2320 Edward III silver halfpenny, of London, Second Coinage 1335-1343, six pointed star after 'AN' and before 'LON', Spink 1540, flat on part of obverse and reverse legends, full, with a nice portrait, VF £50 - £60
