Major George Herbert "Lucky Breeze" Scott CBE, AFC, RAF (late RNAS) Killed in the R101 Airship Disaster. After serving with the RNAS / RAF in WW1 he went on to Command the airship R34 on its return Atlantic Crossing in 1919 which marked the 1st transatlantic flight by an airship and the 1st east-west transatlantic flight by an aircraft of any kind. He was also on the R100 in 1930 during the an Atlantic crossing. He was killed later that year when the R101 crashed in northern France during a flight to India. Scott also made significant contributions to airship engineering, notably the evolution of the mooring mast. Served Airship Stations Barrow, Anglesey, Howden, Cranwell, Pulham (Chief Experimental Officer) and Crystal Palace. Served as a Camel Pilot Aegean 1918. MID L/G 30/4/1918 as Squadron Commander RNAS Howden while in Command of HM Rigid Airship No9. Air Force Cross L/G 1/1/1919 as Major Act Lieut Colonel RAF. CBE L/G 23/8/1919 Commander of HM Airship R34. Scott retired from the RAF Oct 1919 later joining the technical staff at Cardington in 1920. He was also issued with Airship Pilots Licence No A1 (1st Class) 4/2/1921. Lot includes superb copy photo of Scott, original R101 Memorial Card and Newspaper. Lived Chota Castle Chew Magna, Somerset. Born Yarmouth, Suffolk. On the Thiepval Memorial. (1) £80 - £85 730 Victory Medal & India General Service Medal 1908-35 with Malabar 1921-22 bar to 1342 Cpl Arthur Payne, 4th Bn Suffolk Regt. He survived WW1 from 08.11.14, later served with 1st Bn Suffolk Regt. in India. Entitled to 1914 Star & BWM. Lived Castle Street, Woodbridge. (2) £170 - £180
