62 1236 Anglo-Saxon, silver sceat, Secondary Phase, c.710-c.796 A.D., Series G, Type 3a, Spink 800, reverse:- Standard with line and pellet outer edge, annulet enclosing pellet centre, three of the quarters have a cross with pellet between, the other quarter contains a trefoil of pellets, well centred, NUNC £300 - £350 1237 Cholas of Tanjore, silver one third kahavanu, 10-11mm., wt. 1.83, issued by Rajadniraja 1018-1052, in Kunker occupation, with a ticket by Dr.R.Vezin, VF £40 - £50 1238 Cnut silver cut-halfpenny, Pointed Helmet Type, Spink 1159, reverse reads:- +ASLAC M[ ], almost certainly of the Lincoln Mint and similar dies to Mossop pl. XLII, 16, with an old ticket ,'Steven Birkinshaw 12.4.01', full size, GVF/VF £40 - £50 1239 Cnut silver penny, Quatrefoil Type, Spink 1157, obverse reads:- +CNVT REX ANGLOX, behind head is anengraved 'T', slightly on its side to look an 'X', reverse reads:- +SPRVNT M:. DEO ['D' with thorn, only jusy visible], extra pellet in two quarters, 1st. and 2nd.clockwise, Thetford Mint, moneyer Swrunt, the cataloguer knows of only 2 others from these dies, Royal Coin Cabinet, Stockholm and a piece sold Copenhagen c.1995, full, round, well centred, scarce, GVF/EF £350 - £400 1240 Cnut silver penny, Quatrefoil Type, Spink 1157 obverse reads:- CNVT REX ANGLORVM, this is a strange reading, the die sinker starting at 6 o'clock and punching in the initial cross last, as this comes out of the side of the last 'M' [visible from die dups.], reverse reads:- +TIDRED MO DEOD [third 'D' with thorn], Thetford Mint, moneyer Tidred, these interesting dies were 'moneyer marked' by the addition of a large pellet behind bust and a ditto in top right quarter of the reverse, The cataloguer knows of 12 others of Tidred of Thetford, this the 13th.being a die dup. of 2 of these, hence 3 known these dies, almost certainly from the 'Cambridge' Hoard, full, round, well centred and as struck, Mint state. £350 - £400 1241 Cnut silver penny, Quatrefoil Type, Spink 1157, obverse reads:- X CNVT REX ANGLORVM [Pellet in centre of 'O'], a strange legend as the initial cross is engraved into the die but lettering punches were available as the 'X' in REX is punched in, Reverse reads:- +EDRICMOOGIP [first 'O' horseshoe shaped with sqare bottom, second 'O' with pellet centre], Ipswich Mint, moneyer Edric, Sadler Vol. II, The Ipswich Mint could only trace 7 from these dies, 3/4 and a further specimen has turned up in the US, of these 8, 4 are in museums, sold with old ticket and the coin is almost certainly Ex.'Cambridge' find, Mint state. £550 - £650 1242 Cnut silver penny, Short Cross Issue, Spink 1159, obverse reads:- +CNV.T REX .: reverse reads:- +GOD RIC ON LINC:, Lincoln Mint, moneyer Godric, see Mossop, pl.LI, 17 for a possible obverse die-link, sold with 2 old tickets 'Dec 99 Colin Cooke', full, round, well centred, GVF/VF £150 - £180 1243 Cnut silver penny, Sort Cross Issue, obverse reads:- +CNVT [ ]ECX:. reverse reads:- +EADPOLD ON LVN, London Mint, moneyer Eadwold, full, round, well centred, large pellet at centre of reverse, GVF £240 - £270 1244 Edward the Confessor silver cut-halfpenny, Expanding Cross type heavy issue, Spink 1177, reverse reads:- +MANNA[ ], a Mana is known of Canterbury and Lincoln and a Manna from Norwich and Thetford, this from the work of J.J.North, as the piece is from a collection formed in Cambridgeshire it is probably from Thetford or Norwich and could be die-linked, a little weak but a full cut-half, VF/NVF £50 - £60 1245 Edward the Confessor silver penny, Radiate Issue, Spink 1173, obverse reads:- +EDPERD RE+:, reverse reads:- +EDRICC ON DEODF [second 'D' with thorn], Thetford Mint, moneyer Edric, 9 coins in total known to the cataloguer, 1 of which is a die duplicate in the John Cross Collection, a coin from this obverse is in SCBI 54, Stockholm 602, crinkled and with a couple of pin holes when held up to the light, clear GF £100 - £120 1246 Edward the Elder silver penny, Small Cross / Moneyers name in two lines, Spink 1087, moneyer Athelwulf, full, round, well centred, EF £800 - £900 1247 Gaznavid, Gazna / Kabul, silver dirhem, wt. 3.65g., Farrakzad 443-457 AH,with a full ticket by Dr.R.Vezin, GF £40 - £60 1248 Mughal Provincial, Jalal al din Akbar 936-1014, silver rupee of 24mm. wt.11.4g., year 986 = 1578 A.D., with a ticket by Dr.R.Vezin, VF £40 - £50
