376 Distinguished Flying Medal group - DFM GV (1317434 F/Sgt G Jones RAF), 1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Africa Star, Burma Star (missing Pacific clasp), Defence & War Medals, Bomber Command Medal, and European Confederation of Former Combatants Medal. Box of issue named Mr G Jones DFM, Apple-Acre, St Brides Major, Bridgend, Wales. Matching Miniatures. Cloth Wings, etc. Private Purchase Flying Log Book (original one lost) covering 23/12/1942 to 10/5/1944. Served with 51 Sqdn and 159 Sqdn. Then 1944/45 served Far East. 1944 Attached Special Air Service for Special Duties, Picked up Japanese POW's handed over by Maj B E Furgusson. Picked up survivors of No 2 column Major M Calvert, and established communications with Brigadier O C Wingate DSO Expedition. Later Destroyed large concentration of Japanese troops at Mergui, Wounded in Stomach. Flew in Liberator K.H.162 U, ops Chum Phon Rly Bridge, Khao Huagang, Rajburi Bridge 'attacked by Zeros. Two aircraft destroyed'. Crash Landed 5/12/1944 ops Mergui. During his 25 Sorties over Europe he was wounded several times in action, deaths of fellow crew members noted, 28/6/1943 ops Cologne his plane ditched in to the North Sea and was adrift for 2 days, rescued by A.S.R. No 362. Finally discharged from the RAF on 25th April 1951. He was the Commissioned in to the Territorial Army as a W.O. 25 March 1955 with the Royal Engineers. Lot includes original Commission Scroll TA and discharge documents. Newspaper cutting of Gareth Jones DFM in a Lancaster rear gunners turret, the Lancaster being from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. DFM recommended 25/12/1943. An interesting lot. (Qty) £1200 - £1300 377 Distinguished Service Cross and Bar group mounted as worn - DSC silver hallmarked 1941, engraved (Lt D Lambert H.M.S.Regent 1942) for 8 Mediterranean War patrols Oct 1940 to Aug 1941. Bar engraved (H.M.S. Surf 1945). 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Pacific Star, Italy Star, War Medal. Lieut Douglas Lambert RN DSC L/G 5th May 1942 "for daring, enterprise and devotion to duty in successful patrols in H.M.Submarines". Bar to the DSC L/G 19/12/1944 for H.M.Submarines (Northampton) service on H.M.S.Surf for Parols in Northern Waters, in the Aegean and in the Far East. Lambert was C/O 14 Jan 1943 to 3 Dec 1944 and is credited with sinking the MV Sonja heading for the Dardanelles. His Bar to the DSC was earned for engaging with and sinking by gunfire a fuel lighter and a tug on 5th March 1944 west of the Aroa Islands. HMS Surf also encountered the drifter "Hedgehog" full of British Commandos and 52 German POW's and towed it to an allied island. Lieut D Lambert was also involved in the arrangements for the release of Mr Ronald Campbell the British Minister to Yugoslavia who was being held by the Italians at Ercegnovi and then Zelenika, while he was serving as first Lieut on HMS Regent.
