Ancient & Hammered Coins 1429 Ancient Greek bronze of c.18mm., of Campania, Cales, obverse:- Helmeted head of Athena, left, reverse:- Cockerel standing right, star behind, legend CALEN[O], upright, before, reverse slightly off centre, VF £75 - £85 1430 Ancient Greek silver hemidrachm of Bithynia, Kalchedon obverse:- Bull walking left, on ear of corn [looks more like a dolphin], legend above blundered, reverse:- Incuse square of ' mill sail' pattern the surfaces granulated, see Sear p.349, VF £100 - £120 1431 Ancient Greek silver tetradrachm of Attica, Athens, although probably later, obverse:- The helmeted head of Athena, banker's mark on chin, this looks crude but is somewhat worn, the reverse die looks of better artistic merit and is the standard owl standing right, head front, AOE before, olive twig and crescent in left field, but it is not set in an incuse sunken square, dies look too big for flan, see Sear pp.235-238, GF/GVF £150 - £180 1432 Ancient Greek (3) : Kingdom of Macedon, Antigonos I Monophthalmos silver drachm, in the style of Alexander the Great, c.310-301 BC, 15mm, 4.15g, nEF light scuff reverse, and two drachms of Alexander the Great of different dies, VF and EF £80 - £120 1433 Ancient Greek, Pamphylia, Aspendos "wrestlers" silver stater, c.380 - 325 B.C., VF £80 - £120 1434 Ancient pieces mostly copper, plus a silver drachm of Alexander III, F a bronze of Sidon, Phoencia, with old ticket, 3 x Celtic pieces and a late bronze of Byzantine, average F to GF [6] £40 - £50 1435 Danubian Celts imitation of a silver tetradrachm of Philip III of Macedon, obverse:- Plain, reverse:- Crude and weak seated figure of Zeus, Sear 212, dies very worn, VF £40 - £50 1436 Electrotypes of Ancient Greek coins, in GEF x 3 £90 - £120 1437 Kingdom of Persis, Darius I, 2nd. cent. B.C., silver drachm of good artistic style, obverse:- Head right with short beard, wearing satraprel head-dress surmounted by crescent, reverse:- Fire-altar, Sear 6196, good central strike, NEF £50 - £60 1438 Parthia etc (15) a collection of silver drachms with identifying tickets, many in nice grade, plus a couple of extra pieces comprising a contemporary forgery Indo-Greek drachm and a scarce Kingdom of Elam Kamnashir Orodes III bronze drachm. £200 - £250 1439 Persis (4) silver obols of Artaxerxes II, Darius II etc, with identifying tickets. These are quite scarce and a couple possibly new dies. £80 - £120 1440 Persis, silver drachm of Artaxerxes II c.30-20 B.C. 4.04g, GVF, a nice example. £80 - £120
