Extinct, reconstructed egg, 33cm long,
25cm wide,. The elephant birds were giant
ratites native to Madagascar, and have
been extinct since at least the 17th
century. It was the world`s largest bird,
believed to have been up to 3m tall and
weighing close to 400kg. The egg volume
is approximately 160 times greater than a
chicken
