British Commonwealth Games 1962 Perth, Australia
Participation Medal, bronze, produced by K.C. Luke,
Melbourne, together with an England athlete's official
vest badge in silk. Due to its location Perth had only 1041
athletes and officials, and it one of the more difficult
medals for collecting. This from the collection of Francis
Coyne, M.B.E., a competitor and official of the England
Team, according to vendor.

Colonel Andrew Wilson Baird C.S.I. - Col A W Baird
was born at Woodland, Cults Aberdeen. Commissioned
as Lieut in the RE on 18/12/1861. In 1868 served as
assistant field engineer in the Abyssinian Expedition. For
his work as traffic manger of the railway from the base he
was Mentioned In Despatches (L/G 30th June 1868).
Promoted Capt 4/4/1874. Major 18/12/1881. Between
July 1885 and August 1889 Baird was temporarily
employed as Master of the Mint at both Calcutta and
Bombay, and also as both assistant and Deputy
Surveyor-General of India. Promoted Brevet Lieut-Col
18/12/1888, and 12th Aug 1889 became permanent
Mint Master at Calcutta. Promoted Regimental Lieut-
Col 9/4/1891, Brevet Col 29th Sept 1893 and
substantive Col 9/4/1896. Created Companion of the
Most Exalted Order of the Start of India in June 1897
and Died 2/4/1908 buried at Highgate. Miniature
Medals mounted as worn C.S.I. (silver gilt) and
Abyssinian War Medal, with original hand painted
miniature of Baird in a silver hallmarked frame.

Error Coin: GB Two Pence 1997 with incorrect die axis.
Ordinarily the dies are medallic up/up, but here a die
has spun and the coin is struck almost in crown axis
up/down, EF with lustre. Comes with a letter from the
Royal Mint.
