Framed oil painting on panel by Dutch artist Jan Evert Morel II (1835-1905), titled 'A River
Landscape in Holland' and signed l.l. The painting was previously sold in 2009 by Burlington
Paintings, 'Fine 19th & 20th Century British & European Paintings', London. Jan Evert Morel
II was born in Amsterdam on 24th February 1835, where he lived and worked for most of his
life. The son of marine artist C.J. Morel, Morel II prefered to depict wooded landscapes, often
with the inclusion of small figures. The majority of these works are relatively small and painted
on panel. The artist's work has been on exhibit in many musems including: Bisdom Van Vliet,
Haastrecht, Boymans and Rotterdam. He died in Weesp on the 14th May 1905. Picture size
H:32.65cm x W:50.8cm. Excellent condition.
