India General Service Medal 1854 clasp Burma 1889-92

(2/Devon Regt), 1915 Star Trio (York Regt) to (Sgt)

William James Gill. Gill was born Saugor, India, 1868,

son of Thomas Gill, Conductor, Commissariat Dept;

enlisted Devon Regt 1890, discharged India 1902.

Volunteered with 1/Yorkshire Regt at Rawalpindi some

time after August 1914. Later transferred to S&T Corps.

Killed/Died Battle of Ctesiphon 22 Nov-1 Dec 1915.

Commemorated Basra Memorial. Lot includes birth

record from India Office, Army Service Record (WO

97/4933), MIC and WO 329 copies. Together with a

copy of an OMRS Summer 1999 article describing the

medals p117. A rare group worthy of more research.
