The letter reads 'Dear Mrs Paddow I think the chief influence was H. G. Well’s First Men in the Moon not as a socialist? but as a... of ‘science fiction’. There was also a negative influence, a reaction against an essay (I’ve forgotten the title) by J.B.S. There was also a desire to show that science fiction could work in Christian, no less than... materialistic pre-supposition. Except in that... I shall say there is hardly anything about ‘...’ in my trilogy. Perilandra is almost entirely theological - the garden of Eden over again but this time the Fall counted. That the primary thing for me was always the story just as a story ? the things pictured. Perilanda from a... of the floating islands. I certainly did not.. my stories as a vehicle for... philosophy . My philosophy (... traditional Christianity) came in as a filling for the part of story, wanted to... the ‘work’ being imaginative, not.... I’m a... of Gulliver but I don’t think it was an influence.
