A.D., is thought to have been produced in the area of the Lower Rhine up to the Baltic and possibly in England. The dishes, and I quote, according to Muller [Tamla-Valk, 2017, p.93] 'were profane dishes for food or washing hands. They were artifacts of high symbolic value. in addition to practical and hygienic purposes, they also demonstrated the owner's status. The bowls can be linked to the behavioural codex, where a pragmatic striving for cleanliness is combined with symbolising rank, status and prestige'. They were also possibly used when an area was being Christianised, as a tool for baptism. The bowl has had two rivetted repairs in antiquity, hence evidence of high value put on this object, The bowl has light decoration inside and is uncleaned, hence this could be studied after this process Sold with all paperwork, including the PAS report SF-CE6698. £500 - £600 1524 Henry II silver penny, Short Cross type Class 1b, curls 2/5, reverse:- + PIERES.ON.
