4/10/1917. Lived Small Heath, Birmingham. Listed on
the Tyne Cot Memorial. Son of Rev Joseph Odell. MC
L/G 17th Sept 1917 'For conspicuous gallantry and
devotion to duty in taking out a patrol at a critical
moment and gaining very valuable information, which
resulted in bodies of the enemy who were massing for
attack being dispersed by our artillery fire. throughout all
operations he has consistently displayed the utmost
courage and coolness'. Military Cross engraved '2nd

11/11/1916. This award may very well be for the attack
to the south of La Boisselle on July 1st 1916. the
Regiments of the 34th Div suffered grievously and
included 10 Lincs (Grimsby Chums) and 11th Suffolks.
Also N.Fus/R.Scots etc. Award possibly for 1/7/1916
for dressing and bringing the Wounded under heavy fire.

inflicting over 200 casualties on the advancing German
