Baltic Medal 1856 (engraved Hon'ble Maurice Wingfield
MID HMS Nile), Crimea Medal with Sebastopol clasp
(engraved Hon'ble Maurice Wingfield MID HMS
Vengeance) and Turkish Crimea Medal 'La Crimea'
(unnamed as issued). Born 13th January 1839, second
son of the 6th Viscount Powerscourt. Entered the Royal
Navy in 1853 aged 14, aboard HMS Nile as a Cadet,
then as a Midshipman during the Baltic Campaign. On
paying off from HMS Nile he joined HMS Vengeance
and saw action in the Black Sea including the
bombardment and attack on Sebastopol. On 18th May
1855 he was personally presented with the Crimea Medal
by Queen Victoria at Horse Guards Parade. He
remained in the Navy until 1860. In 1861 he joined the
Army and received a Commission in the 1st Life Guards.
He died on the 14th Feb 1866. With much research.
