BMC 7, Spink 1282, struck mostly in the reign of Henry
II, obverse reads:- +STIEFN[ ], 'S' falling on it's back,
reverse reads:- ]AND[ ? mint and moneyer not known,
flat on most of reverse legend, very light crease down
upright of sceptre which can be seen on the reverse, with
dark patchy tone, good portrait, centres GF

Stephen silver penny, local and irregular issue from the
Ornamented Group given to York, c.1150, Flag Type,
obverse:- Crowned bust right, decorated lance with
pennant before face but no star right, roundel at back of
head, larger roundel at back of neck, see BNJ pl.XIV, 40
for a very similar reverse die, variety with crescents at
arm ends, reverse with no annulets, see Spink 1313,
present coin also with 8 ornaments as Spink 1313A, very
sharply struck, lightly double-struck reverse, large
fragment of this very rare issue, a clear example, VF
