Military Medal GVI, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Italy

Star, Defence & War Medal to 4031912 Sjt N C R

Bedborough K.S.L.I. MM L/G 15th June 1944 Nicholas

Charles Richard Bedborough (Boston, Lincs). With copy

of Citation and Death Certificate (died in a traffic

accident 25/7/1945, Syria. Buried Beirut War

Cemetery). His recommendation reads 'During the

fighting in the ANZIO Beach head, Sjt Bedborough has

given a fine example of devotion to duty. This signal

NCO personally carried the Control 18-Set throughout

the attack on 30 Jan 1944. Despite intense enemy

shelling and mortar fire, Sjt Bedborough never ceased

trying to maintain touch with the forward Companies.

The maintenance of contact with these Companies was

of the greatest help in controlling the attack. For three

days and nights after the attack Sjt Bedborough

continually went forward to lay and repair lines to the

most advanced positions. It was due to his efforts that

Companies were seldom out of touch with Bn HQ, thus

enabling important information to reach BN and Bde

HQ as it occurred. During the attack on Buonriposo

Ridge and subsequent days this Signal NCO repeatedly

repaired lines under heavy fire. His coolness and

determination were an inspiration to all with whom he

came in contact and who were shown a fine example of

disregard for personal safety. VF (6)
