China / WW1 Casualty group- China War Medal 1900
with Relief of Pekin clasp (Asst. Engr A E Cossey, RN
HMS Aurora), 1915 Star Trio (Eng. Commr A E Cossey
RN). Arthur Ernest Cossey was Killed 5/6/1916 when
the HMS Hampshire sank with Lord Kitchenor on
board. Remembered Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery. Son
of the late Major J F Cossey. Lot comes with detailed
research, Cossey was born in India in a town called
Kisauli. He was involved in the action at Langfang during
the China Wars, specifically Anting Station Arthur
Cossey was Mentioned In Despatches, the London
Gazette entry reads thus: Mr Arthur E. Cossey Assistant
Engineer HMS Aurora, at much risk to himself returned
from our most advanced post towards Anting Station to
bring important news. Admiral Seymour also wrote that
he be recommended for promotion. A footnote also
written by Admiral Seymour says; when the fact of the
Chinese having beheaded anyone they got is considered,
the conduct of such Officers or men as risked themselves
to such capture is to be praised far more than if against a
