53rd Coy. IMP. YEO and 1511 Sergt J. MAHON

NORF R. JohnMahon enlisted aged 18 in the 1/9th Foot

14-11-1870 at ?? and served until 1897. In various non

campaign area, the LS & GC medal was his only

entitlement. (Gibraltar, GB & East Indies). Married with

five children he re enlisted 24.3.00 and served until

Christmas Day 1901 when he was KIA at Tweefontein

when 500 Imperial Yeomanrymen were attacked by 500

Boers under De Wet who crept up at night upon the

Yeomen and completely overran them, capturing 240

prisoners and 20 wagons. Sadly 57 British were killed and

88 wounded. The Rhodesia and SAOI clasps were later

issued (research confirms) sadly this Rhodesia clasp is

Nurses cape - WW2 era British Nurses cape decorated

with cloth formation sign badges. Collected by Sister

Evelyn Mary Fox, Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military

Nursing Service (Q.A.I.M.N.S), the standard issue navy

blue cape has stitched to its inside a number of British

cloth formation signs and shoulder title badges including

combined operations (Army), combined operation

(RN/RM), 44th Indian Airborne Division, No.5

Commando, 64th London Medium Regiment RA, 13th,

49th, 56th, 61st, 76th & 78th Infantry Divisions,

Commando Brigades and shoulder titles from Royal

West Kent, The Buffs, Grenadier Guards, Wiltshire and

East Surrey. Also a formation sign for the Royal

Nederland Brigade, plus many others. Accompanying the

cape is a folder full of documents and photographs

relating to Sister Fox's service with the Q.A.I.M.N.S.
