both bars are confirmed,.

Gnr. J. Munday R.F.A. James Munday attested

23/10/1891 and lived Poplar, Middlesex. Munday was

mentioned in Kitcheners Despatch L/G 29/07/1902

serving in the Pom-Poms Royal Artillery. All bars

confirmed on papers.

Lt. Infy. Garnet David Samuel Chave joined the Imp. Lt.

Infy. in Liverpool 09/01/01 giving his address as 39

Castle Arcade, Cardiff. Discharged Pietermaritzburg

08/04/1902. Died in the British Seaman's Hospital

Constantinople 13/08/1904 of peritonitis.

QSA with bars SA01, SA02 to 1203 Cpl. J. Fraser

B.S.A.P. John Fraser attested 18/07/1901 in the

Mashonaland Div. aged 23. Fraser was later implicated

in the Battlefields case of 1908 when him and 3 others

were charged with Culpable Homicide of 3 African

workers who were flogged so severely that 2 of them died.

The 3 had been tied to a tree and flogged by a Sjambok

until unconscious. When tried subsequently before an all

European jury all 4 men were found not guilty and

released.

Marys, Leicester, roll confirms bars and that he was

Invalided 02/06/1901.

QSA with bars TH/RoL engraved Lieut A Deas, RN

HMS Philomel. Mentioned In Despatches Relief of

Ladysmith 'Lieut Deas, who is now in hospital, I consider

worthy of special mention, more especially so I am sure

that his unremitting hard work was largely the cause of

his going down when attacked by dysentery'. Born

Arundel, Sussex 1863. He commanded 2x 12 pounder

guns with the infamous Col Lang at Colenso. His guns

were commanded to cover the attack, Lt Deas succeeded

in brining their guns into action on Fort Wylie. One of his

guns "capsized" but mounted it without delay - all hands

behaving admiralty. Much collector research. Medal

with contemporary engraved renaming. VF
