Jansen (A. J.). Oil on canvas, depicting

the SS Ipswich passenger ship, signed to

lower right 'A. J. Jansen Rotd '92', image

size 58cm x 88cm approx. The SS

Ipswich was built for the Great Eastern

Railway and was launched from

Harwich in 1883. The vendors great-

grandfather Harry William Carliell who

also resided in Harwich, perished whilst

working on the SS Berlin, the ship sank

after being hit by waves. The SS Berlin

was another ship owned by the Great

Eastern Railway
