Gloucester Mint, moneyer Leofwine, the reverse die of
this coin being particularly interesting in that the die
sinker seemed somewhat in a hurry punching in the the
birds bodies and heads but not their legs and with the
exception of one bird, their beaks. In the Syllogue of
Coins of the British Isles there is only one other example
in the first 40 volumes and this from the same reverse die,
Vol. 19, GloucesterMuseum, No.99, Sadler inhis corpus
of varieties in his Vol. II, The IpswichMint, did'nt know
of this variety, a very rare variety of a scarce type from a
rare mint, obverse lightly double-struck, full, round, well
centred,NVF
