Ceylon Volunteer Service Medal 1919, named to H. S.

Nicholson. Believed to be Major H S Nicholson OBE.

Whos memoirs were written in 1954 covering his career

as a Tea Planter in Ceylon, served as a junior officer on

the Quartermaster Generals Staff at GHQ BEF 1917-

1918. And at 66 became Chief Postal Censor, Malaya

(1940-42) the final days of the battle for Singapore, his

evacuation in the KUALA and her sinking by the

Japanese (13/2/42) his voyage by small boats on to

Singkep and Sumatra and across the island to the Post of

Padang (Feb - March 1942, his subsequent internment by

the Japanese (April 1942 - August 1945). Verdigris spot
