43 940 Militia Pattern Brown Bess Volunteer Musket. Barrel 39" engraved to the top "London" with ordnance marks post 1790. Elongated lock with roller frizzen and engraved "Williams" in front of the swan neck cock. Handrail stock with oval escutcheon, brass furniture, trigger guard with acorn finial. Brass sideplate with 3 screws (similar to those found on grice rifles c1796). Full walnut stock with brass ramrod pipes & steel ramrod. Most likely made by Richard Williams Gun maker of Red Lion Street, from 1784 to 1805. Works on 1st and 2nd cock (mainspring a little week). Tower view & proof marks for private arm. Side plate of the Militia and Marine Pattern of 1762 (a 2 screw plate). The marking of Y+C 71 indicates ownership of York City and musket armoury number 71. Possibly made for the Blues of York Regiment. A superb Volunteer Musket dating to around 1745. £1200 - £1400 942 New Land Pattern Musket, undated lock with 'G.R.' Crown & view mark. Three screw sideplate. Plain walnut stock (medium bruising overall). Brass furniture. Barrel 42". Ring neck cock. Lock works on 1st & 2nd cock. Buttstock stamped "1 C.R." (this is an Enfield storekeepers mark c1856 and denoting a 1st class reserve gun in stores). Also marked "B.O." (Board of Ordnance). in decent overall condition with service wear. £800 - £900
