Aurelius at Rome c.176 A.D., reverse:- Peacock standing

facing, looking right, tail spread, Sear 5215, reverse very

slightly off centre, slightly ragged flan [as struck],

states 'Bulletin March 1985 E41 S2003', typical smallish

tone, edge bent up, obverse 11 o'clock, NF/GF

ANGL., reverse reads:- +DORR ON EOFER.[D with

thorn, N reversed], York Mint, moneyre Thorr, with an

old ticket by Mike Vosper which states 'Ex. W.Howarty

Col.', full, round, well centred, little weak areas GF

Edward the Confessor silver penny, Sovereign/Eagles

Type, Spink 1181, obverse reads:- +EADPEARD REX

ANOLO, reverse reads:- +LEO[F]PINE ON GLEPE[ ],

Gloucester Mint, moneyer Leofwine, the reverse die is

particularly interesting in that the die-sinker seemed

somewhat in a hurry, punching in the birds bodies and

heads but forgetting their legs and in three cases out of

four their beaks. In SCBI there is only one other example

in the first 40 volumes and this from the same reverse die,

Vol. 19, Gloucester Museum, 99. Sadler in his corpus of

this type in Ipswich Mint Vol. II, did'nt know of the

variety from a scarce mint, obverse lightly double-struck,

full, round, well centred, rare, NVF
