Military Cross group to Captain Lionel Alfred Furst
KOSB. Medals - MC engraved 'Presented to Lieut
Lionel A. Furst KOSB by H.M. King George V at
Buckingham Palace July 17th 1918', BWM & Victory
Medal (2.Lieut L A Furst). Defence Medal, War Medal
and French Croix De Guerre 1914-1918. Starting as a
Pte in the Liverpool Regt, he was Commissioned into the
Labour Corps 10/7/17, then into the K.O.S.B as Lieut
and later Captain. His MC was L/G 16th Sept 1918 Lab
Corps 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.
He marched his working party in heavy shell fire to their
work, which was successfully carried out under shell fire,
rifle and machine-gun fire, and got them back again with
but one casualty. Many of his party had never been
under shell fire before. His control of inexperienced men
under such conditions was quite exceptional, and his
display of coolness and courage undoubtedly caused the
success of the task and the very low casualties sustained'.
Lived Canonbury N.I. Lot includes original Investiture

Military General Service Medal 1848 with bars
Vittoria/Nivelle/Nive correctly named W. Kortwright
Ens'n Colds'm Gds. William Kortwright (or Kortright)
lived at Fryerning, Near Chelmsford. Medal comes with
large folder full of family research. Information from the
Coldstream Roll states that 'from Ensign in 68th Foot,
promoted to Captain in 93rd Foot 11/9/1817, and
exchanged from ditto 6th Nov. Placed on half pay of the
Regt, on reduction from 25/12/1818, exchanged from
ditto 25/2/1819. Exchanged to ditto 10/11/1825 with
Lord Hotham'. (Ex Sotheby July 1991). VF
