166899 shows this to be an award for gallantry during
the German March Offensive 21st to 26th March 1918

MM L/Gaz 11.11.16. Alfred Olby. To France 25.7.16.
KIA 5.10.16 during the attack by the 8th/Bn on the
Schwaben Redoubt. Commemorated on the Thiepval
Memorial. It is possible this award is a retrospective MM
for Loos?, however it is far more likely to be for the
Somme. The 8/Bn were in action on July 1st at
Montanban. Born Norwich.

1/5th Bn. Norfolk Regt, 1914/15 Trio 2056 L.Cpl/ A
Sgt. E. Lee Norfolk Regt. Mounted as worn on original
ribbons (contact wear to all medals which have been
worn with pride) 1/5th Norfolks served in 163rd Bde
54th (East Anglian) Division. This battalion landed at 'A'
Beach Suvla Bay Gallipoli on 10.8.15. The 1/5th were
the famous 'lost battalions' subject of the film 'All The
Kings Men'. 16 officers and 250 men disappeared and
were never seen again. Lee's MM was promulgated in
the London Gazette of 2nd April 1918. This MM was
awarded for gallantry during the invasion of Palestine
(Battle of Gaza November/December 1917) 1/5th MM
groups are scarce on the market.

11.12.18. '67088' Pte James Tracey 62nd Bn. MGC. At
(Tardenois) between 20th & 30th July 1918 'FOR
CONSPICUOUS GALLANTRY & DEVOTION TO
DUTY'. This driver frequently brought up his limbers
under heavy shell fire. On one occasion when two of his
animals were killed he cut off their harness and packed it
with gun material into the limber before driving it away
into safety. Throughout the operations Pte Tracey's cool
bravery, skill and determination, enabled him on many
occasions to take his limbers forward across difficult
country and under heavy shell, m/gun & rifle fire. MM
for the Advance to Victory, Battle of the Marne, Battle of
Tardenois (XXII Corps 5th Army) 20th to 30th July
1918. Accompanying the group is a folder full of original
documentation including his full citation. 62nd Bn.
M.G.C. served with the 62nd (West Riding) Division. An
outstanding group.
