Home town: HAVERHILL. 1915 Trio officially

impressed 1123 Pte A.E. WEBB SUFF. R. He landed at

Sulva Bay Gallipoli with the 1/5th Bn. Suffolk on 9.8.15

and later transferred to Norfolk Regt. Many MMs on the

27.6.18 Gazette to German Offensive in March, usually

with Lewis guns. (4)

(MM to 206/FD: Coy RE). Died of accidental injuries

3/12/1918 while salvaging German ammunition. Buried

Soumoy Communal Cemetery. Lived Fishburn,

Ferryhill, Co. Durham. MM L/G 7/10/1918. Lot also

includes original Memo forwarding his MM to his

Mother 18th Sept 1919. EF

25th FEB 1814 named William James, officially

impressed naming. Roll shows 'WILLIAM JAMES L.M.'

(Provenance, sold Sotheby's on 25.6.1976 Lot 47, with

original ticket). 32 medals for the action against the

French 40 gun frigate 'Clorinde' by HMS EUROATIS a

ship of 38 guns. A sharp action at close quarters, both

ships being dismantled. EF condition.
