Navy. A fine and impressive collection of a 150 approx.

Various sized candid photos and postcards, corner

mounted into contemporary album, covering the cruise

of H.M.S Kent to the Far East and HMS Isis. 1935-38.

Collected by Midshipman Samuel Richard Le Hunte

Lombard-Hobson OBE (1913-1999). He later wrote a

book on Atlantic Convoys. His first command was HMS

Guillemot, where one of his officers was Nicholas

Monsarrat who later wrote the book Cruel Sea, based on

his time with Lombard-Hobson on the ship. The photos

inc. China, Hong Kong, Life on Board, Officers, Japan,

Ethnic, Views, Temples, 5th Cruiser Squadron, Junks,

Crossing the Equator 1936, Great Wall, Wei-Hai-Wei,

Tiger on board for London Zoo, Romania, Gibraltar etc.

Together with cap bands for H.M.S. Britannia and Isis

(both laid down). A marvellous insight into life in the

Royal Navy just prior to WWII. Signed by Lombard-

Hobson and annotated by him.

OTAGO REGT'. Contact wear either side of naming

and to disc. Geo V bust, Kiwi to reverse. Captain Ronald

Burns Bannerman CBE, DFC & BAR of 79 Squadron

scored 17 victories flying a Sopwith Dolphin between

4.8.18 and 4.11.18. Sold with research details of his

career and listing his victories. Scarce

Norfolk Regiment 1940 POW grouping, 1939-45 star &

War medal, with a good selection of paperwork and

photographs all relating to 5772789 Pte W.J Carter who

enlisted 1937 aged 17 into the 2nd Bn, serving with the

B.E.F taking part in the rearguard actions which ended

when the Bn was out of ammunition and 97 Norfolks

who surrendered were massacred at Le Paradis, but he

evaded capture for three more days, being the only

survivor of his detachment of 90 men. Held in many

camps he managed to escape in 1945, pinching a car, he

managed to make it to the American lines.

2/Lieut Cyril Samuel Benson 6th Bn Ox & Bucks L.I.

Killed In Action 24/4/1917. Buried Neuville-Bourjonval

British Cemetery. Album comprises many military

related photos and joining up paperwork, several Post

Office Telegraphs including the one sent to family

informing them of his death, notes, letters, etc etc. An
