A collection of commemorative items relating to the

Victorian jockey Fred Archer, comprising: i) an

earthenware jug circa 1886, black transfer printed

decoration featuring Archer aboard Ormonde and a

head & shoulders portrait to reverse, inscribed with his

birth & death dates and career details, underside marked

Rd. No. 63356, John Fennell, Manchester, height 11cm.,

4 1/4in., handle restored; ii) a mug with similar

decoration bearing the same Rd. No., brown transfer

decoration, poor condition with cracks and chips; iii) a

Prattware jug circa 1886, portrayed either side aboard a

racehorse and inscribed F.ARCHER, the handle's

thumbpiece designed as a jockey cap, height 16cm., 6

1/4in., chip to spout, crack near jockey's head; iv) a

Staffordshire pottery plate circa 1886, from the Wallis

Gimson and Co. Portrait Series, octagonal, registered

design number 41050, black transfer printed portrait of

Fred Archer and his racing achievements, surrounded by

coloured floral decoration, good condition, diameter

24cm., ., 9 1/2in.; v) a similar plate with plain black

decoration and in poor condition; vi) a Victorian clay

smoker's pipe, inscribed DONOVAN, and the bowl with

a named portrait of Archer and an image of a racehorse

& jockey.

A group of four large and impressive photographic prints

of sportsmen, comprising: the golfer Tony Jacklin, the

cricketer Sir Gary Sobers, the footballer Peter Shilton

and the rugby player Neil Back, colour expect for the

Shilton, the photographs varying in size from approx. 12

by 16in. to 24 by 16in., all similarly framed and mounted

with information captions about the sportsman, the

largest frame 83 by 60cm., 32 3/4 by 23 1/2in.

No.34 which has been later signed by the England 1966

World Cup finalists Nobby Stiles, Sir Geoff Hurst,

George Cohen, Alan Ball, Jack Charlton, Ray Wilson,

Martin Peters & Roger Hunt, also the West German

1966 World Cup final goalkeeper Hans Tilkowski and

commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme, plus the

legendary England footballers Sir Tom Finney & Sir

Stanley Matthews, and with the sports of speedway,

rugby league and boxing represented by Barry Briggs,

Alex Murphy & Sir Henry Cooper, a COA pasted to the

backboard, mounted, framed & glazed, overall 64 by
