15418 were allocated to the 1st Arkansas Volunteer Cavalry. It is very likely this one is in that number. Walnut stock scratched with owners initials
'T.F.' possibly 'T.F.H.' These carbines were issued to 1st ARKVOL. CAV. inAugust 1864.Walnut stock (fracture repair towrist) brass furniture. An
interestingU.S. CivilWar carbinewhichwouldhave seen action in1864/5.Overall G.W.O. & condition (some bruising towoodwork)

Carbine: a U.S. Contract Model 1865 'Indian Wars' Spencer, .50 calibre repeating carbine. This carbine manufactured by the Burnside Rifle
Company. SN. 30,834. (TheBurnsideContract numbered in its own sequence 1 - 34.000) Carbine dates tomid 1865. The action is at fault , however it
appears complete. The trigger sear is slipping but should be easy to repair. The tube magazine in the buttstock lacks its spring & follower. The
magazine system is fittedwith a stabler cut - off. Fore end is retained by iron band (fore-end retaining screw absent).Walnut buttstockwithminor split
alongside sling ring bar (ringmissing)minor loss to toe. This carbine represents an excellent restorationproject. a/f

captive rammer (stirrup missing). With its brass tipped ramrod. Varnished walnut stock. Brass buttcap engraved 'R.D.' (Royal Dragoons) & 'H'
(squadron?) and 3 (Rack no.?). Barrelmarked '1843' & 'Enfield' in small letters. Screw absent from stock.Walnut stock heavily varnished.Worn overall,
nipplemissing, lock in crispworking order.
