written note by an unknown hand, the note
asking for as much arms as possible this
day to persue the rest of the rebels and to
meet at Brougham as the rear guard of the
rebels has already been taken by the Duke
of Cumberland, the note dated 'Brough 18
Dec', this note was written as Bonnie
Prince Charlie was retreating back North
into Scotland, and the Jacobite garrison at
Carlisle surrendered to forces under the
Duke of Cumberland on 30 December,
