Officers in the trenches before Sebastopol,
dated 25th July 1855, with typed
translation, reading 'As Their appears to be
some misunderstanding with regard to the
power of the General Officer Commanding
in the trenches to give orders to Officers
Commanding the Artillery to fire upon the
enemy when he considers it desirable to do
so, and as in some recent instances when
the General Officer ap??? to the
Commanding officer of artillery to open
fire, he was told he had no orders to do so.
It therefore becomes necessary that some
different instructions should be given for
the mutual guidance of the General
commanding the trenches' etc., signed by E.
