Bde. R.F.A. 'For conspicuous gallantry during operations
at Mametz Wood on 1st July 1916. (First day of the Battle
of the Somme) When a gun was hit and some men
wounded, he tended the men under heavy fire and
quickly got the gun into action again. On another
occasion on the 8th August 1916 at Mametz Wood he
assisted to dig out men buried by shellfire. To France with
27/Bde RFA on 19.8.14. This medal is an official EIIR
replacement officially impressed. NEF.

wounded at Pilchem Ridge, 3rd Ypres on 31.7.17 to

MM GV to 198833 Signaller Albert Fenton 'B' Battery.
75th Brigade R.F.A. (One of 3 awards to the Battery in
the 23.7.19 gazette). For conspicuous gallantry when on
outpost duty with his officer. When the officer was
Wounded Signaller Fenton dressed his wounds and
carried him back to the battery all the time under heavy
fire. He did fine work. (MM Roll Bate & Williamson).

Rifle: A Great War GEW 98 service rifle, regimentally
marked to the 10th Reserve Jaeger Regiment, 3rd
Company, weapon no.156. The 10th Jaeger Regiment
contained the 12th & 13th Jaeger Battalions. They were
used as light infantry scouts and snipers attached to other
units. They were from Saxony. Rifle made at Danzig in
1916. The Jaeger Division with the 12th & 13th
Battalions was formed in Nov. 1917. It was involved in
the March Offensive at St Quentin & was then moved to
Villers Bretonneux on 27.4.18 & later Quesnoy. Many
prisoners were taken on 24.10.18. Nov 6 1918 it retreated
over the Sambre until 11.11.18. The rifle is in good
working order & condition. It has all matching numbers
including the bolt (The butt plate is rusted and there is
some roughness to the r.h. bottom of the stock). Complete
with its new EU Certificate of the Activation. *Most
GEW 98s in England are war souvenirs.

Tank Interest: An outstanding, scratch built, museum
quality model of a British Mark Tank 'Champagne' C1,
as used at Flers Courcelette on 15.9.16. Plaque to side of
heavy wood plinth detailing crew members and with
original ? Tank Badge and the name 'Gunner H Rothera'
whose medals are in the museum. The wood and metal
model made by master modeller M. Kittendge and is
correct in every detail and in pristine condition. Length
13". Width 7", Height 8".
