Medal with bars 1949 & 1956. DCM L/G 26/4/1917
for Egypt "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to
duty. He has at all times carried out his duties in amost
able manner under very difficult conditions".
Williamsons annotated DCMRoll shows awards for the
period 1/10/16 to 28/2/17, 127 Coy formed in Egypt
14/3/16 served with 5th/6th/7th/8th Bns the
Manchester Regt. Took part in the Battle for Romani,
Egypt, August 1916, 42nd East Lancs Div. Later served
France & Belgium. Hester was born in Nov 1893 living
in LittleMarlow, on leaving the army he joinedMarlow
Special Constabulary. Lot includes original photos and

conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He did
excellent work in repairing and maintaining telephone
lines between Bridge and Battalion HQ. For 18 months
he has set a fine example to other linesmen in courage
and devotion to duty, often under the most trying of
circumstances'. 17th DSC in action during period of
