William Ashworth 20th (Tyneside Scottish) Bn.

Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed in action 1st July 1916,

First Day Battle of the Somme. Attacked across Mash

Valley, the widest part of No Man's land. Battalion

virtually destroyed within minutes of leaving start

positions. No known grave, commemorated on Thiepval

Memorial. Medals NEF on original ribbons t/w

transmitted slip for BWM and copied research. 1915 Trio

and Memorial Plaque to 18660 Private George Ashworth

6th Yorkshire Regiment. (Green Howards). Killed in

action 9th October 1917 at Poelcappelle during the

Battle of Passchendaele. No known grave.

Commemorated at Tyne Cot. Medals GVF on original

ribbons t/w original transmittal slips and copied

research.
